Change is hard, and I've seen a whole lot of burying heads in the sand rather than acknowledge that the world is changing. The pandemic was just a catalyst to speed it all up.
I was absolutely floored when the company I just left decided to change its PTO policy from an already bad 10 days off for the first 5 years of working there to an astounding 10 days off for the first 10 years working there. And, no, I was told very clearly this would not be a point of negotiation for potential new hires. You start off at 10 days no matter what.
We seem to be in a middle of a reckoning. I'm hoping we're better off when we get to the other side.
