Health Insurance Companies Are Out To Kill Us
Blocking care is illegal…but I don’t know what else to call this
Today, like so many days this past week, I woke up in a cold sweat.
It’s the insurance company’s fault. My wife has been having a host of medical issues for over a year now, which her many specialists have narrowed down to “autonomic dysfunction,” most likely POTS. The standard treatments to help alleviate the problem have, so far, not done much.
The next step in this long process is to go to an autonomic specialist. Her neurologist, who is considered one of the top in his field in the state, told us there are zero local autonomic specialists.
After many referrals and fights and tests, we’ve finally gotten her in to the Mayo Clinic, which we’re supposed to go to next week.
The only problem? The insurance has declined to cover it.
Her care was declined because they claim they have a doctor in network (which is limited to our home state) who can treat her.
Who is this mythical doctor? They’re not sure. But they’re happy to transfer us to Customer Service, who will tell us if any doctors we find are in network.
