I think this is the trickiest part of it all. Low pay obviously sucks, but even for 10x or more of the pay, this would likely still be a huge struggle.
Just listened to the podcast with Paul Bloom (hadn't heard of him before, but apparently a developmental psychologist), who talked about how people in wealthy countries feel like they have less meaning in life than those in poor countries. So many jobs throw (sometimes scant amounts) of money at you and expect you to find meaning in that.
For better or worse, we're searching for more than a paycheck. And employers mostly suck at getting that.
