This is a tough topic. People want to be supportive, but so often suck at it. Even commenting on this I worry that I'm out of place since I'm "disabled adjacent" rather than having the disability myself.
I'm often on the other side of these stories, too. "Oh, your son has x,y,z issue? Don't worry, I know someone who did a,b,c, and they got through it!"
Yes. So inspiring. Some different person with superficial similarities was able to differently handle their problem, "getting through it." Whatever that actually means.
Then, of course, they're extremely judgmental because this theoretical magical formula doesn't "cure" my son (though, to be fair, I typically ignore their crackpot suggestions...)
